First post here. My partner and I are Rent is about $719/month for a decent place. You can expect to pay around $719 for rent here. Poverty rate is 11.5%, which is around average. Average temperature is around 46--F, so expect cold winters. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Anyone in a similar situation? The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 15 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I work in hospitality here and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The job market for my field is tough. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've been living here for 5 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The public transit is pretty good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 10 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
