OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Oak Park. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. No regrets on my end..

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
