OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in North. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in education. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from San Diego about 2 years ago. The main reasons were family and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good internet infrastructure
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Bugs and humidity in summer
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are stable, gas is improving.

I've been in Springfield for 11 years. Moved from Houston for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Springfield schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 4 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
