Anyone else feel this way? I work in logistics and Poverty rate is 5.0%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $828/month for a decent place. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. TIA! Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Bought a house here in 2016 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 5 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Tampa about 3 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Close to major attractions
- Good airport with direct flights
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are growing, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've been in Oak Park for 14 years. Moved from Baltimore for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.
**Employment:**
legal is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Oak Park schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Chain restaurants dominate. Road conditions need improvement. And walkability can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
