OK so I'm single, late 40s, and Crime rate is something to consider -Waxhaw sits at 145.3 per 100K. Rent is about $1,770/month for a decent place. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. healthcare used to be much manageable but now it's better than expected.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is better than expected in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Maple Ridge. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
Definitely worth checking out..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a contractor, 48, moved here 11 years ago from Denver. I've lived in Fairview and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Property taxes are high
3. The community vibe situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for families. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want dating scene, then yeah this place is great. But if public transit matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely pretty good and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
