Been meaning to ask this. Homes are going for about $506,300 on average. Household incomes average around $128,115 in Waxhaw. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I've lived in West for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good airport with direct flights
- The safety scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Rising rent and home prices
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for families. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is walkability. I love the pace of life here. Worth doing your research before committing.
