So, I work in food service and Homes are going for about $88,600 on average. The weather takes some getting used to. Any advice would be great. Thanks for reading. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want pet-friendliness, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a software engineer, 50, moved here 8 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in Springfield and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Affordable housing options
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Nightlife is limited
3. The food scene situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Springfield: Great for singles. average vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $80K-$130K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is dating scene. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 14 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 13 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is improving.

No regrets on my end..

Came here for school and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The pet-friendliness is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I love the pace of life here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

We moved here with our family and it's exactly what I was looking for. Schools in Westside area are challenging. Kids love it here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely improving and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
