I'm a teacher here and The median home value here is around $284,900, which seems about average. Poverty rate is 7.3%, which is pretty low. The weather takes some getting used to. Worth the trade-offs?

I'm a writer and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. The community is average and there's always something going on.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 5 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

The food scene here is hit or miss. Tons of great farm-to-table places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Uptown for 7 years. Moved from Salt Lake City for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
finance is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Uptown schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Chain restaurants dominate. Bugs and humidity in summer. And job market can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 9/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely excellent and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (North) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been living here for 12 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The weather is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.
