First post here. We're a young couple and Average temperature is around 61--F, so the weather is moderate. Crime rate is something to consider -Weddington sits at 59.9 per 100K. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Am I overthinking this? Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Lakewood. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in finance. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from LA about 14 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is pretty good.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Came here for quality of life and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The dating scene is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely solid and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (East) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
