Weldon housing prices -when will it stop?

Median household income is $27,353, which feels on the lower side for the area. You can expect to pay around $1,083 for rent here. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Looking forward to hearing from you all. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's not perfect but it works for me. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a contractor, 40, moved here 14 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in Greenfield and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good internet infrastructure
2. Affordable housing options
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The pet-friendliness situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Greenfield: Great for families. underrated vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 15 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

As someone who grew up here, it's exactly what I was looking for. A lot has changed in the past few years though. public transit used to be much established but now it's excellent.

Used to live on the Maple Ridge side, now on the Eastside side. Completely different vibe. it was the best decision I ever made.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good healthcare facilities
- The walkability scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.
