Anyone else feel this way? The unemployment rate is 2.6%, which is pretty low. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Would love some local perspective. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 12 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in Uptown for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
- The public transit scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Moved here from Minneapolis about 6 years ago. I have mixed feelings honestly. Still getting used to pet-friendliness but Happy to answer more specific questions..
