So, I'm a remote worker and Rent is about $1,450/month for a decent place. It's a a small town city with about 14,156 people. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Would love some local perspective. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Pine Hills. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Came here for work and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The dating scene is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in South. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in legal. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Old Town. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in legal. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 3 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.
