It's a a small town city with about 11,585 people. With a population of 11,585, Wendell is a small town. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely improving and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Road conditions need improvement.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is dating scene. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The school system is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
