Is Weslaco good for remote workers?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm a 44-year-old contractor and The median home value here is around $119,200, which is actually reasonable. Average temperature is around 75--F, so it's warm year-round. It's a a smaller city city with about 41,437 people. You can expect to pay around $942 for rent here. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Has anyone dealt with this? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

We moved here with our family and it exceeded my expectations. Schools in Greenfield area are surprisingly good. Kids love it here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Charlotte about 9 years ago. The main reasons were school and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are growing, gas is excellent.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Dallas it's pretty good.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in East for 12 years. Moved from Minneapolis for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is decent - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. East schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Limited high-paying job options. And public transit can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 9/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
