Best hidden gems in West Allis

I grew up here but left for a while. Crime rate is something to consider -West Allis sits at 355.8 per 100K. It's a a smaller city city with about 59,588 people. You can expect to pay around $1,012 for rent here. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. Looking forward to hearing from you all. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a contractor, 49, moved here 11 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in Pine Hills and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The weather situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Pine Hills: Great for retirees. tough vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Bought a house here in 2023 and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Property values have gone down slightly since then.
