Most overrated things about West Allis

So, You can expect to pay around $1,012 for rent here. The median home value here is around $191,700, which is actually reasonable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Is this normal for West Allis? Thanks! The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

I've lived in North for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Close to major attractions
- The public transit scene is tough

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for remote workers. Hope this helps!.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to Miami it's decent.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from LA about 12 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Active local events and festivals
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Urban sprawl is real

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are competitive, gas is decent.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Definitely worth checking out..

Came here for school and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The cost of living is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cost of living. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want traffic, then yeah this place is great. But if weather matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Public transit is surprisingly good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in West for 7 years. Moved from Raleigh for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. West schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Chain restaurants dominate. Can feel isolated. And traffic can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 9/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 1 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in The Heights. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in construction. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Raleigh about 4 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are affordable, gas is challenging.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Definitely worth checking out..

We moved here with our family and I genuinely enjoy living here. Schools in North area are tough. Kids love it here.
