Anyone else feel this way? With a population of 59,588, West Allis is a smaller city. The median home value here is around $191,700, which is actually reasonable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Has anyone dealt with this? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cost of living, then yeah this place is great. But if school system matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 6 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Bought a house here in 2019 and I love the pace of life here. Property values have gone about the same since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Lakewood. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in retail. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to Atlanta it's underrated.

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.
