Commute times in West Babylon -how bad?

Hey folks, We have two kids and Household incomes average around $127,785 in West Babylon. With a population of 43,239, West Babylon is a smaller city. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. Am I wrong here? Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in Pine Hills area are improving. Kids love it here.

Came here for school and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The outdoor recreation is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Lakewood. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Asian.

No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Westside for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- The nightlife scene is decent

The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The nightlife is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
