Things West Babylon needs to improve

We're a young couple and The median home value here is around $490,500, which is pretty steep. With a population of 43,239, West Babylon is a smaller city. Poverty rate is 2.8%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -West Babylon sits at 119.0 per 100K. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. What are your go-to spots? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Moved here from Austin about 12 years ago. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Still getting used to cultural scene but It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a chef, 39, moved here 4 years ago from New York. I've lived in The Heights and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Strong job market in several industries
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Road conditions need improvement
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The dating scene situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for retirees. improving vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $100K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Bought a house here in 2021 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone down slightly since then.
