Random thought, I grew up here but left for a while. Homes are going for about $647,100 on average. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Anyone in a similar situation? The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from New York about 12 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are manageable, gas is pretty good.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.

Came here for retirement and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The public transit is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Fairview. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in engineering. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Definitely worth checking out..
