Curious what people think. I'm a teacher here and Average temperature is around 62--F, so the weather is moderate. The unemployment rate is 3.9%, which is pretty low. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. Would love some local perspective.

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good airport with direct flights
- Diverse dining options
- The outdoor recreation scene is average
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for couples. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Riverside for 4 years. Moved from Charlotte for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. marketing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is tough - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Riverside schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Can feel isolated. And community vibe can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 5/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely solid and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 14 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

The food scene here is average. Tons of great BBQ places. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.
