Random thought, I'm a teacher here and Homes are going for about $712,300 on average. Poverty rate is 7.7%, which is pretty low. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. TIA! Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 28, moved here 12 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Greenfield and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Limited shopping options
3. The school system situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Greenfield: Great for remote workers. average vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.

I've been in Eastside for 6 years. Moved from Portland for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
construction is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Can feel isolated. And safety can be frustrating.

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in West area are surprisingly good. Kids love it here.
