I'm retired and Household incomes average around $98,570 in West Covina. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Any help is appreciated. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want public transit, then yeah this place is great. But if dating scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a real estate agent, 31, moved here 4 years ago from LA. I've lived in South and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The pet-friendliness situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for families. improving vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$70K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 11 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've been here 3 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

I've lived in East for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- The nightlife scene is solid
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Used to live on the The Heights side, now on the Westside side. Completely different vibe. it's been a really good experience overall.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in West. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in education. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Southern.
