Been meaning to ask this. Average temperature is around 62--F, so the weather is moderate. Poverty rate is 7.7%, which is pretty low. The unemployment rate is 3.9%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $2,153/month for a decent place. It's a a mid-size city city with about 107K people. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.
Pros:
- Friendly people
- Nice parks and trails
- Low crime in most areas
- Close to nature
- Good airport connections
Cons:
- Hot summers
- High property taxes
- Mosquitoes and humidity
Does this match your experience? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've lived in Greenfield for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Lots of new development happening
- The weather scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Came here for family and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The pet-friendliness is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 13 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want pet-friendliness, then yeah this place is great. But if weather matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Westside. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in education. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Mexican.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've been here 1 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is decent.

Bought a house here in 2024 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone about the same since then.
