Top 5 things I love about West Des Moines

Anyone else feel this way? We have two kids and Rent is about $1,194/month for a decent place. Median household income is $84,925, which feels pretty solid for the area. The median home value here is around $286,300, which seems about average. The unemployment rate is 1.8%, which is pretty low. Poverty rate is 5.6%, which is pretty low. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Good job market
- Diverse community
- Easy commute

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Far from major airports
- Limited cultural events
Thoughts? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.
