What's it really like living in West Des Moines?

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Houston about 15 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Lots of new development happening
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is better than expected.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

- Good schools in most areas
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are reasonable, gas is average.

- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Urban sprawl is real

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is underrated.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
