Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from San Francisco about 5 years ago. The main reasons were weather and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Lots of new development happening
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are growing, gas is challenging.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

My experience has been mostly positive. it's improved dramatically in recent years. The only thing I'd watch out for is safety. Other than that, Hope this helps!.

The food scene here is underrated. Tons of great Southern places. I love the pace of life here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in South. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in tech. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 6 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Oak Park side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..
