Relocating to West Falls Church, VA -pros and cons?
Longtime lurker here, Just moved here 17 months ago and Crime rate is something to consider -West Falls Church sits at 130.5 per 100K. The median home value here is around $658,700, which is pretty steep. It's a a smaller city city with about 30,660 people. You can expect to pay around $2,140 for rent here. Rent is about $2,140/month for a decent place. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Came here for family and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor recreation is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want safety, then yeah this place is great. But if public transit matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely decent and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Old Town) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Highland for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Close to major attractions
- The housing market scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in East. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in retail. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like sushi.
