Is it worth buying in West Frankfort?

Hi all, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Rent is about $673/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $72,500 on average. It's a a small town city with about 7,156 people. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Let me know your thoughts. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

The food scene here is pretty good. Tons of great farm-to-table places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from San Diego about 1 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are established, gas is pretty good.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'm a marketing manager and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. The community is hit or miss and there's always something going on.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Downtown. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in The Heights. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Asian.

No regrets on my end..
