OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Sunset. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in education. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like seafood.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Nashville about 15 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Active local events and festivals
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is solid.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Background: I'm a data analyst, 25, moved here 5 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in The Heights and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Can feel isolated
3. The safety situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value public transit, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely average and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Downtown) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
