So, Born and raised here. Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. With a population of 55,147, West Haven is a smaller city. Poverty rate is 8.5%, which is pretty low. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. What do you all think? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up.

I've lived in Sunset for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The nightlife scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Nightlife is limited
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. No regrets on my end..

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it exceeded my expectations.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Nashville about 1 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are manageable, gas is improving.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely excellent and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (The Heights) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
