Most overrated things about West Haven

Hey, We have two kids and The unemployment rate is 4.3%, which is about average. It's a a smaller city city with about 55,147 people. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Anyone in a similar situation? The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

My experience has been mostly positive. I have mixed feelings honestly. The only thing I'd watch out for is safety. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Meadowbrook for 13 years. Moved from Denver for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Road conditions need improvement. And weather can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 6/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Charlotte about 13 years ago. The main reasons were work and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Lots of new development happening
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are pricey, gas is average.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Definitely worth checking out..

I've been in East for 6 years. Moved from San Francisco for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Bugs and humidity in summer. And traffic can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 9/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Greenfield. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Indian.
