Moving to West Hurley with kids -good idea?

Hi all, I'm a remote worker and The unemployment rate is 1.4%, which is pretty low. It's a a small town city with about 1,733 people. Crime rate is something to consider -West Hurley sits at 282.7 per 100K. The median home value here is around $369,000, which seems about average. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development. Am I wrong here? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Phoenix about 2 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of new development happening
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Nightlife is limited

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are pricey, gas is better than expected.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Lakewood. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Greenfield for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Close to major attractions
- The outdoor recreation scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Came here for work and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The safety is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
