First post here. With a population of 1,309, West Kittanning is a small town. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. Has anyone dealt with this? Appreciate any input. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Bought a house here in 2023 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone about the same since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Downtown. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
No regrets on my end..

My experience has been mostly positive. the quality of life is solid. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from San Francisco about 15 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Lots of new development happening
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are developing, gas is solid.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Definitely worth checking out..
