Curious what people think. Homes are going for about $1,647,400 on average. It's a a small town city with about 3,315 people. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Does this match your experience? Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in Maple Ridge area are solid. Kids love it here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely challenging and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (West) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Uptown for 9 years. Moved from New York for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
construction is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Uptown schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Can feel isolated. And dating scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
