Working in West Liberty -salaries realistic?

Been meaning to ask this. My family moved here when I was a kid. Homes are going for about $160,000 on average. Rent is about $630/month for a decent place. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Anyone in a similar situation?

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I genuinely enjoy living here. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 29, moved here 15 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in The Heights and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Limited shopping options
3. The pet-friendliness situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for singles. solid vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

I work in engineering here and it was the best decision I ever made. The job market for my field is surprisingly good. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Baltimore about 8 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good airport with direct flights
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are established, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in South. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely improving and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Westside) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Highland for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The public transit scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. No regrets on my end..
