Moving to West Liberty for work -advice?

Hello, I'm a college student here and The unemployment rate is 2.8%, which is pretty low. It's a a small town city with about 1,568 people. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. What are your go-to spots? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to New York it's underrated.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The walkability is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is improving in most areas.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a chef, 25, moved here 8 years ago from Denver. I've lived in Sunset and Riverside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Can feel isolated
3. The traffic situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for couples. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Riverside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $80K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Bought a house here in 2015 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely better than expected and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Fairview) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
