Considering West Linn vs Memphis -help me decide

So, Household incomes average around $138,526 in West Linn. Rent is about $2,006/month for a decent place. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Anyone in a similar situation? Thanks in advance! Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

I've lived in Midtown for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The community vibe scene is solid

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a real estate agent, 52, moved here 6 years ago from New York. I've lived in Maple Ridge and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The pet-friendliness situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for remote workers. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $80K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is safety. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I love the pace of life here. Internet is excellent in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from LA about 6 years ago. The main reasons were school and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Close to major attractions
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is tough.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely solid and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Midtown) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Bugs and humidity in summer.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Used to live on the Midtown side, now on the Cedar Grove side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Came here for family and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The food scene is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
