Hey folks, I'm originally from Nashville and The unemployment rate is 3.0%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $138,526, which feels pretty solid for the area. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Charlotte about 6 years ago. The main reasons were work and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good airport with direct flights
- Diverse dining options
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is improving.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Highland. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in education. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. pet-friendliness used to be much stable but now it's solid.
