Random thought, Average temperature is around 55--F, so the weather is moderate. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 12 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely improving and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Springfield) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Lakewood. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Hope this helps!.

The food scene here is excellent. Tons of great Mexican places. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Used to live on the The Heights side, now on the West side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Minneapolis it's challenging.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Denver about 2 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good airport with direct flights
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are manageable, gas is pretty good.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Riverside) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is food scene. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Charlotte about 11 years ago. The main reasons were work and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited high-paying job options
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are affordable, gas is tough.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Definitely worth checking out..
