Biggest downsides of living in West Melbourne?

Hey folks, I'm retired and Homes are going for about $341,500 on average. With a population of 27,643, West Melbourne is a smaller city. Crime rate is something to consider -West Melbourne sits at 132.9 per 100K. You can expect to pay around $1,801 for rent here. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

My experience has been mostly positive. the quality of life is solid. The only thing I'd watch out for is public transit. Other than that, Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely average and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (South) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. food scene used to be much competitive but now it's challenging.
