Living in West Melbourne -the reality

First post here. Median household income is $90,521, which feels pretty solid for the area. Poverty rate is 3.7%, which is pretty low. With a population of 27,643, West Melbourne is a smaller city. Rent is about $1,801/month for a decent place. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Pros:
- Growing food scene
- Low crime in most areas
- Diverse community
- Good internet infrastructure
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Limited dining options
- High property taxes
- Limited cultural events
The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Minneapolis it's decent.

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in West area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a HR manager, 25, moved here 15 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in North and Midtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Lots of new development happening
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Rising rent and home prices
3. The healthcare situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for families. decent vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $80K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The public transit is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
