Hey folks, Been living here since 2008. Rent is about $1,607/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 55--F, so the weather is moderate. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. Am I wrong here?

Used to live on the Uptown side, now on the Cedar Grove side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

As someone who grew up here, it's exactly what I was looking for. A lot has changed in the past few years though. housing market used to be much reasonable but now it's surprisingly good.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Pine Hills. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in finance. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Boston about 11 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Active local events and festivals
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is tough.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Happy to answer more specific questions..
