Been meaning to ask this. Is this normal for West Odessa? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The job market is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 5 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, the quality of life is solid. Definitely worth checking out..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a software engineer, 45, moved here 10 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in South and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The public transit situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for retirees. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $90K-$70K here.
**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Came here for quality of life and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The nightlife is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Maple Ridge. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

The food scene here is solid. Tons of great Korean places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's exactly what I was looking for. The only thing I'd watch out for is traffic. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..
