OK so With a population of 31,985, West Odessa is a smaller city. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a project manager, 45, moved here 1 years ago from Boston. I've lived in Maple Ridge and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Urban sprawl is real
3. The safety situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for families. tough vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $100K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 3 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Moved here from Minneapolis about 5 years ago. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Still getting used to cultural scene but Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'm a physical therapist and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. The community is better than expected and there's always something going on.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Bought a house here in 2019 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely improving and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
