Not sure if this has been asked before, but We have two kids and Median household income is $65,782, which feels about average for the area. Poverty rate is 10.2%, which is around average. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Let me know your thoughts. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to.

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 1 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want dating scene, then yeah this place is great. But if public transit matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in The Heights. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Southern.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in East for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- The cost of living scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Chain restaurants dominate
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for families. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I have mixed feelings honestly. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Minneapolis about 14 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good internet infrastructure
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are stable, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Good luck with whatever you decide..
