Is West Perrine getting better or worse?

OK so I'm retired and Rent is about $1,413/month for a decent place. With a population of 9,944, West Perrine is a small town. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Would love some local perspective. Cheers. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely solid and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Uptown) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
