Rent vs buy in West Point -what makes sense?

Hey everyone, Crime rate is something to consider -West Point sits at 224.2 per 100K. Average temperature is around 50--F, so expect cold winters. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Is this normal for West Point?

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'm a marketing manager and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. The community is pretty good and there's always something going on.

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much wild but now it's decent.

I've lived in Eastside for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The healthcare scene is solid

The downsides:
- Limited entertainment options
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Phoenix about 13 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Active local events and festivals
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are developing, gas is challenging.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Happy to answer more specific questions..
