OK so We have two kids and Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. The unemployment rate is 0.8%, which is pretty low. Poverty rate is 0.8%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $1,600/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -West Point sits at 42.8 per 100K. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Am I wrong here? Cheers. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Raleigh about 15 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are growing, gas is average.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The cultural scene is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from San Diego about 4 years ago. The main reasons were family and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are established, gas is average.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Definitely worth checking out..

Used to live on the Eastside side, now on the Highland side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.
