Hi all, My family moved here when I was a kid. The unemployment rate is 5.7%, which is about average. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Any advice would be great. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Came here for family and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The cost of living is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 15 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Westside for 5 years. Moved from Minneapolis for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is solid - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Westside schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Rising rent and home prices. And traffic can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 7/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Used to live on the Riverside side, now on the Sunset side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 12 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
- The community vibe scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. Feel free to reach out with questions..
